Plastic Surgery

You may be looking to make changes in your lifestyle through a surgery or in need of repair to a specific part of your body.

Our plastic surgeons perform a wide diversity of procedures from head to toe, with most surgery divided into two categories: reconstructive and aesthetic. Reconstructive surgery is designed to improve function and form and restore to the fullest extent possible the original esthetics of the body part. Aesthetic surgery involves enhancement of certain normal parts of the body.

What is aesthetic surgery?

Aesthetic surgery is a field of plastic and reconstructive surgery, aiming at restoring or improving the appearance of various parts of the body.

Patients who seek aesthetic improvement may desire to reverse the effects of aging on their face or body, have completed their weight loss journey and desire body contouring, or may be unhappy with the aesthetics of certain parts of their bodies and desire a change.

We know that having aesthetic surgery is a big decision. Here at Cal Med Aesthetic Surgery, we strive to make that journey as pleasant as possible. From the initial consultation to the post operative care, our board-certified surgeons and our experienced dedicated team will work with you to provide individualized care to meet your needs and goals. Our team’s ethos can be summarized in three words: Honesty, Communication, Safety.

Breast Surgery

Breast lift:

A mastopexy or breast lift is a procedure indicated for patients with adequate volume that are concerned about the positioning of the breast. The procedure will lift the nipple/areola complex to an aesthetically pleasing position and will reshape the breast so that a natural tear – drop shape is created. A shaggy breast can result due to aging, breast feeding and massive weight loss.

Breast reduction:

Reduction mammaplasty or breast reduction is a procedure that is designed to (a) decrease the size of the breast and (b) lift and reshape both the nipple/areola complex and the breast. Breast hypertrophy, or large breasts can be the cause of severe neck and back pain. Enlarged breasts can also interfere with personal hygiene, impede exercise and make daily activities difficult to perform. A breast reduction will not only improve the functionality of the patient, but also create more proportionate aesthetics. If you are concerned about the size and the positioning of the breast, a breast reduction might be the answer.

Breast augmentation:

Patient who are concerned about the size of their breast may be candidates for a breast augmentation. A breast augmentation uses implants (saline or silicone) to improve the fullness on the upper pole of the breast. While an augmentation will very slightly lift the position of the nipple, if the degree of droopiness is significant, an augmentation alone may not be the right choice. During your initial consultation, we will review your history, listen carefully to your needs and desires and we will perform a series of measurements during the physical examination in order to consult you regarding the best and safest approach to improving the aesthetics of your breast.

Breast augmentation/mastopexy:

When a patient is dealing with both volume and positioning concerns, a combination of an augmentation/mastopexy (or lift) may be indicated. This procedure is highly individualized and can be done as a single stage or a two stages procedure. The decision depends on the patient’s anatomy, desires and medical history.

Gynecomastia (male breast hypertrophy):

Gynecomastia or an increase in the size of the breast tissue under the nipples can happen in adolescents and adult males of all ages. While this can be due to changes in the hormones in the body, it can often be idiopathic (no reason) and can significantly affect the patient’s confidence. Once the underlying cause has been identified and efforts have been made to reverse the cause, if the problem persists, your surgeon will discuss with you about ways to improve it. The type of procedure and degree of will depend on the severity of the issue.

Face Surgery

Facelift:

Time, stress, sun exposure and pollution take a toll on our skin. The elasticity is diminished, and the amount of collagen is depleted. These changes result in rhytids (wrinkles), jowling, folds and loss of the defined angles of a youthful face. Furthermore, with aging, the face loses its volume, a cornerstone of a youthful appearance. A facelift (which always includes a necklift) is the most powerful tool to reverse the signs of facial aging. Often combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures (such as fat grafting to the face, brow lifts, eyelid surgery) and procedures to improve the skin quality (microneedling, PRP, CO2 lasering etc.), it is one of the practice’s most favorite and cherished surgeries that (insert company’s name) provides.

While there is a plethora of different techniques, our plastic surgeons only perform Deep Plane facelifts and necklifts, the state-of-the-art technique that allows for very powerful and long lasting results. This technique creates very natural outcomes that stand the test of time.

Necklift:

A necklift is performed when a patient presents with concerns about the shape of their neck. The patient can be either young with excess fat and a genetic component of a ‘heavy neck’, or with signs of aging and excess sagging skin. Massive weight loss patients may also present with typical signs of aging (such as excess sagging skin) regardless of age. A deep plane necklift will address all the components of the neck aesthetics and create a youthful and defined neck. In some cases, liposuction of the neck alone may be an option.

Browlift:

Heavy brows can make people look tired but can also obstruct the vision. There are several techniques depending on the desires and the needs of every patient. Here at (Insert companys name), we approach each patient in an individualized fashion and we decide alongside with the patient on what approach would be ideal. Brow lifts, like other facial rejuvenation procedures are often combined for best results.

Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery):

Whether upper, or lower a blepharoplasty will remove the excess skin and restore the youthful appearance of a patient’s eye. The surgery will result in a well rested look and will improve the patient’s visual field.

Lip lift:

A lip lift emerged as a long lasting and better alternative to lip fillers and has gain popularity, becoming one of the most performed procedures in the office. It is a procedure that does not require anesthesia and can be performed in less than an hour. It results in a shortened distance between the nose and the upper lip, and a fuller upper lip. When you add the fact that it is long lasting and does not require frequent visits to the office for repeat injections, it is no wonder why it has become so popular.

Body Surgery

Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck):

Pregnancy, weight loss or just the effect of aging can result in excess skin and fat of the abdomen. An abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is a series of procedures that aim at restoring the definition of a sculpted abdomen. The tummy tuck (a) removes and excess skin of the abdomen, (b) improves the excess fat of the abdomen, (c) reposition and reshapes the umbilicus and (d) restored the functionality of the recti abdomini muscles (six packs) by creating an internal corset. A tummy tuck will improve not only the aesthetics of the abdomen, but also its functionality. Patients will experience an increase in their core strength and stability. While there are many different techniques (mini tummy tuck, classic tummy tuck, extended tummy tuck, reverse tummy tuck, fleur de lis abdominoplasty), Cal Med Aesthetic Surgery we combine the newest techniques with liposuction to create a dimensional effect of hills and valleys for the most aesthetically optimal results.

Mommy makeover:

While pregnancy and motherhood are the most rewarding experiences, they take a big toll on the female body: outstretched abdominal muscles, stretch marks, excess skin, deflated and shaggy breasts. The effects of pregnancy are often irreversible regardless of diet and exercise. Here at Cal Med Aesthetic Surgery we provide an individualized approach for every woman that wants to restore her pre pregnancy body. A mommy makeover typically includes some type of abdominal wall improvement (for example with liposuction, abdominoplasty or a combination of the above) with a treatment of the breasts (lift, augmentation, fat grafting).

Liposuction:

While exercise and diet are the best way to lose weight, there may be some persistent, tough to treat areas of fat. When the area of concern is mild to moderate in severity and the skin tone and quality are good, liposuction alone may be an excellent option to treat these concerns and longer scars from skin excisions (required for example in a tummy tuck may be avoided). In addition, part of the fat removed through the liposuction can the be transferred and grafted or deposited in other areas of the body. This results in ‘liposculpting’, a powerful tool that can significantly improve the shape of the body in select patients.

Brachioplasty (arm lift):

An arm lift is a cosmetic procedure that improves the contour of the arms. Excess skin or fat may create an undesirable ‘bat wing’ look that is often resilient to diet and exercising. Our plastic surgeons offer an individualized approach for every patient to meet their goals of a sculpted, athletic arm. Wearing sleeveless dresses and tank tops is now achievable.

Thighplasty (thigh lift):

Excess skin of the thighs can be aesthetically unpleasing as a result of the wrinkly, sagging and loose skin of the legs, but can also result in issues with hygiene and exercising. Your plastic surgeon can help with a thigh lift. The procedure will focus on the inner thigh, but it will also improve the overall appearance of the leg and the knee area.

Skin Rejuvenation Surgery

From Botox and laser resurfacing to filler treatments, there are many options when it comes to improving the appearance of your skin. Filler injections have several products like Restylane and Radiesse as well as collagen/fat injectable fillers. With peels, there is chemical, glycolic and laser peels among the many choices.

Dermabrasion is an exfoliating technique that takes advantage of a rotating instrument to remove the outer layers of your skin. You can have vein removal, scar revision or even tattoo removal as other skin cosmetic procedures that can improve the quality of your life.

What is plastic and reconstructive surgery?

A reconstructive surgery helps to improve body function, a more even and normal appearance and self-esteem. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there are more than one million reconstructive surgery procedures done each year.

Reconstructive plastic surgery focuses on repairing facial and body abnormalities and defects and correcting dysfunctional areas of your body to give you a more normal appearance. There are many reasons why you may need a reconstructive procedure from birth disorders to sudden traumatic injury. It could be simply an aging issue, an infection, or to treat a disease or tumor.

Breast

Breast Reconstruction: This surgery can restore breasts to their normal shape and size, especially after a mastectomy. Breast reconstruction is performed either using breast implants or the patient’s own tissue from another part of the body.

Burn Repair Surgery

There are several types of burn repair surgeries depending on your specific circumstances. Skin graft allows the surgeon to remove skin from one area of the body to another location. A free flap procedure sees the transfer of skin, bone or muscle with the original blood from one area of the body, the donor site, to the surgical location, the recipient site.

Scar Revision Surgery

There is a wide variety of treatments available from minimally invasive to surgical revision to minimize the appearance of a scar and make it harmonize with the surrounding skin.

Cleft Lip/Palate Surgery

This procedure helps to correct abnormal development caused by birth defects and restore a normal appearance in a child. Cleft lip and cleft palate are the most common birth defects.

Microsurgery

A microsurgery involves the reattaching of a specific body part whether a finger or a toe. The surgeon sews blood vessels or nerves to repair damaged arteries or nerves. There is also a tissue expander in which an instrument is inserted under the skin near the area that needs repair. This “balloon” is filled with a saline solution and gradually stretches to eventually allow the damaged area to be reconstructed.

Hand Surgery

There are a number of reasons why someone may need a hand surgery to treat some diseases like Dupuytren’s Contracture that causes pain to the patient and impairs the function of the wrists and fingers. Treatment of conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome and rheumatoid arthritis can improve the quality of life.

Lower Extremity Reconstruction

This procedure allows people to feel sensation and movement again in a leg or foot that has suffered a major injury. Lower extremity reconstruction lets the surgeon transfer muscle, nerve and vascular tissues from another area of the body to the injured location and reconnecting the blood supply to restore nerve structures. The result is normal function and appearance to the injured ankle, leg or foot.
